One Direction (1D) fans, or commonly known as Directioners, have had a hard time in 2015. First, Zayn Malik announced his departure in March. Then, the band decided to drop a track “Drag Me Down” from their impending fifth album in the middle of the night which sent Directioners into a frenzy to try and beat the Vevo record on YouTube. After that, there were rumours that Louis Tomlinson was going to be a father. Finally, the biggest bomb dropped.
Following the fifth album’s release, the band will be taking an indefinite hiatus to pursue solo projects. Directioners do not take this news very well and many could not accept the fact that after five years, after five albums and after four world tours, the band would be no more. It had become a routine for Directioners every year and now, it’s over.
One Direction & Justin Bieber
Made in the A.M was released on Nov 13, 2015, the same day where Justin Bieber released his album, Purpose. 1D and Justin Bieber are top-notch artists and have always been at the top of the music charts with their songs and albums. Releasing an album on the same day might create some trouble especially when both their fans are hardcore and competitive. However, Bieber’s Purpose is more about learning from mistake and vowing to be better though apologetic themed songs while 1D’s Made in the A.M. is more of a parting gift to Directioners as they exit the music scene for a year or so.

Made in the A.M. was a huge jump from their fourth album, Four. Made in the A.M. consists of ballads, pop songs and a dark track. Despite the fact that the boys did not really acknowledge the fact that this is the end of an era, the album is tinged with a hint of nostalgia that says to Directioners: Remember us like this, this is the real us. Being closely handled and managed on basically everything, this album is the close Directioners get to their actual, personal self.
Album opener “Hey Angel” was perfect as it sets the correct mood for the album: intimacy and calmness. The most interesting song on the album is definitely “Perfect”, the single that was coyly suggested by Harry Styles to be about his relationship with Taylor Swift.
It’s a song that sounds a lot like Swift’s own song “Style” which was about Styles himself.
Sad ballads like “If I Could Fly”, “I Want to Write You a Song” and “Long Way Down” are songs on the albums which makes Directioners feel closer to the boys even if they might not be a band anymore. “History” and “Love You Goodbye” are much more upbeat and pop and these songs give a sense of closure to the album. Could this be a goodbye gift for Directioners?
You can get Made in the A.M. at any major music stores or at Popular at $20 only.
